All of the following techniques can be applied

by themselves or blended together to provide a wide variety of bodywork

sessions for both relaxation and muscle injury treatment.

Swedish Massage Certification (October 2000): Characterized by long flowing strokes that travel towards the heart along belly length of muscles.  This technique is used to promote systemic circulation and relaxation.  This is the most widely recognized form of massage and can be often seen in sitcoms such as Friends and Seinfeld.

Pfrimmer Deep Muscle Therapy Certification (December 2000): Short cross-fiber strokes are used to break up adhesion and promote circulation in damaged muscle tissue.  The basic sequence is two and a half hours long and works through all the muscles of the body.  This is a much more vigorous massage and pressure is applied up to the tolerance level of the client.

Shiatsu  class in May 2002

Hot Stone Therapy (February 2003): Stone massage utilizes heated basalt river stones to apply pressure, heat and relax the muscles.  Plenty of oil is applied to allow the smooth stones to glide and to help disperse the heat.  The stones may also be placed on chackras and in the hands.  This is a very nice and comforting massage.  Far more popular in the winter but loved by some all year around.

Brain Therapy Certification  (April 2004): The Cranial Sacral and Myofascial Systems are gently assisted by the therapist to release tension.  This is a very intuitive form of bodywork and can be incorporated with other techniques into a session.

Thai-Yoga Certification (October 2004):  Often described as assisted Yoga, Thai bodywork involves the rhythmic application of pressure and exotic stretching.  Thai sessions are performed fully clothed.

Manual Release Technique (November 2004):  Pressure is applied along the belly length of a muscle as the muscle is slowly stretched.  This technique is great for Carpal Tunnel but can used with almost any muscle group to break up scar tissue and realign the muscle fibers.

Somatics  (January 2006):  A gentle technique for self stretching.  These stretches and other techniques can be incorporated into treatment for various injuries.

Lomi-Lomi  (February 2006): Hawaiian massage characterized by extensive use of the forearm for both long broad strokes and heavier isolated pressure.  This technique can be surprising gentle as it utilizes the relaxed meaty portion of the forearm.  Slow movement is applied to problem areas to allow muscle knots to relax into the pressure.
